Context and needs

Ansaldo Energia is an Italian company operating globally in the energy sector and is among the world’s major power plant producers (it also has a division engaged in nuclear energy).

The process of internationalization that has characterized the recent years of Ansaldo required a review of the IT tools and solutions used to support operations and collaboration among employees located in different countries and time zones. For this reason, the IT department wished on one hand to move from on-premise to the cloud, and on the other to identify a platform that could facilitate and simplify communication and collaboration even between different company locations.

Solution and Technology

Ansaldo Energia, coming from a history predominantly based on Microsoft technologies and platforms, directed its choice towards Office 365. With the support of SoftJam, Ansaldo began the implementation with a pilot project involving 200 staff members.

The project had two phases: a technological phase that involved migrating user accounts from on-premise to the Microsoft Azure cloud; a second phase characterized by a change management process that included delivering workshops and classroom training on the operation of the tools, by SoftJam, to both Italian and foreign users of Ansaldo.

Finally, the rollout of the solution across the entire company population was executed, integrating Office 365 functions with strong authentication solutions.
